Ill. Police Officer, Employee Struck by Car while Breaking Up Bar Fight

A Prospect Heights police officer and an employee were injured when they were struck by a fleeing suspect in a vehicle while trying to break up an altercation in a bar parking lot.

An Illinois police officer and a bar employee were struck by a vehicle while trying to break up a fight early Sunday.

The incident happened at about 4 a.m. when a Prospect Heights police officer responded to an altercation in a bar parking lot, WBBM-TV reports. While trying to intervene in the scuffle, the officer and an employee at the bar were struck by a suspect flee in his car.

The officer only suffered minor bruises in the collision, but the employee was taken to the hospital. The employee is expected to recover.

The suspect was apprehended in nearby Palatine only a few minutes after the incident. He was charged with driving under the influence, and felony charges were pending.
